LION FOR A DAY PROGRAM
Dear Prospective Cristo Rey Families,
We are so excited to invite your child to experience what it’s like to be a part of the Cristo Rey New York family through our Lion for a Day shadow program! This is a unique opportunity for 8th-grade students to step into the life of a Cristo Rey Lion, spending the day alongside one of our current students.
At Cristo Rey, we believe that every student has the potential to shine, and Lion for a Day allows your child to truly immerse themselves in our vibrant community. They’ll sit in on engaging classes, share lunch with their buddy, and discover what makes Cristo Rey so special—from our strong academics to the friendships and experiences that shape every student’s journey here.
We want your child to see firsthand what it means to be part of a school that celebrates individuality, encourages growth, and provides the tools to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. They’ll get a real feel for what it’s like to be a Lion—whether it’s getting involved in our wide range of clubs, sports, and activities, or simply walking through our halls filled with community, pride, and purpose.

During their visit, your child will be paired with one of our students based on shared interests, hobbies, or even elementary schools to ensure they feel welcomed and connected from the moment they arrive.
Schedule
-Arrival: 8:30 AM
-Dismissal: 12:45
Please arrive through our Parish Entrance and proceed to the parish hall for the Lion for a Day assembly
Guidelines

Phones should be put away, turned off, or put in silent mode during their time at Cristo Rey.

Students are expected to wear their “Buddy Pass” lanyard throughout the day.

An “Excuse Note” will be available in the main office for students to take back to their current school.

Students should dress in business attire or wear their school uniform if they attend a Catholic school.

All school rules and regulations must be followed. Any inappropriate behavior may result in the student being sent home with an adult.

We will provide lunch, but students are welcome to bring their own if preferred.

To reserve your child’s spot, please fill out the form above. If you need to reschedule, please email me at ttejada@cristoreyny.org. Once the form is completed, a confirmation email will be sent with the details of the selected day.
